SANDRAH NASSALI
“I want to inspire many young women in Africa to become sports journalists and achieve their dreams.”
Meet Sandrah Nassali, a sports journalist from Uganda who enjoys covering football and netball. She also loves to create sports related social media content on her channels.
“My career in sport started by posting updates on my Facebook account. Later people got familiar with my account and this led to my first opportunity of being invited onto television for a sports show.”
“Growing up playing sport at school, and also the support from my parents has played a pivotal role in my career. A sporting moment that changed my perceptions of sport was seeing Ugandan athlete Dorcus Inzikuru win a gold medal.”
I see some female athletes are getting air space in media, but the media needs to give enough time to women's sports.
We need to support women’s sports by covering the local leagues, reporting on athletes based upon their merit and even wearing your local jersey. Technology is also a great tool to help keep people easily informed on their phones, especially the younger generations, so this is a good opportunity to promote women’s sports.”
SANDRAH’S MESSAGE
“I want to inspire many young women in Africa to become sports journalists and let them know that dreams do come true.”
“My advice to young girls wanting to work in sport is that they should be focused, hardworking, and stay unique.”
