RICHARD ALLCROFT OBE, PRESIDENT WWR
Meet Richard Allcroft OBE, the President of the International Federation for Wheelchair Rugby. Richard has been involved in wheelchair sport for over 30 years, both as an athlete and a leader. Currently he is responsible for the Paralympic sport and its development globally.
PROUD ACHIEVEMENTS
“Being voted in as President in 2018 and being allowed to represent the sport on behalf of our member nations. In particular, growing the relationship with World Rugby as our sport partner with the inclusion of a world class event in Rugby World Cup in France in 2023.”
SENDING A MESSAGE
“The difference that sport can make in people's lives from the simple act of physical activity, social inclusion right through to opportunities to compete at the highest-level individuals aspire to. For those athletes with a disability, competition is important as well as the desire to win. The incredible stories that athletes have are part of what makes them strong, and it is more than the story that defines individuals.”
ADVICE TO SHARE
“You can achieve so much more as an individual with a great team and people around you. You can't do it on your own.”
FUTURE OF PARA SPORT
“For sport to be able to grow, it requires investment at the grassroots level, at all levels including local and national government, not-for-profit and commercial organisations. This is where you will see successful outcomes in relation to visibility and inclusion. It will happen at the local societal level.
High performance international competitions are a small part of this but of course provide the window to our sport.”
